Already looking ahead to NEXT Christmas!

Having seen this movie myself, and used it for ministry purposes with young adults, I had to re post this! The film is part discussion, part documentary, and 100% interesting. Have skeptics about God’s divine plan, then this is the film to have on hand!

Why am I re posting it NOW, when it was published BEFORE Christmas? Well, I was a few weeks behind on my reading with the offices being closed and all…so I’m just starting to get used to this whole ‘work’ thing again!

Enjoy! And if you want to read more from Kenny, just click on his name below!

Bethlehem Star

The other night, my father-in-law introduced me to the most amazing video. It’s called the Star of Bethlehem. WOW! He meant to bring his copy of the DVD, but amazingly we found it on Amazon and watch the entire video there. I intend to purchase a DVD of my own. Since watching this video, I’ve not been able to stop thinking about the amazingness of our God and what he did.
Psalm 19:1-4
1 The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
2 Day after day they pour forth speech;
night after night they reveal knowledge.
3 They have no speech, they use no words;
no sound is heard from them.
4 Yet their voice goes out into all the earth,
their words to the ends of the world.

The Star of Bethlehem is the personal research project of attorney Frederick Larson. He had always been fascinated by the star the kings from the East followed to find the Messiah. Scholars often debated whether the star was an actual star or the object of legend and lore. Is it even possible to stars to move? Is it possible for them to stop as this one did over the place Jesus lived? How did these “wise men” know that a king had been born based on a star they had seen? Frederick’s years of research answers all of these questions. Yes, there was a star of Bethlehem and it did actually do all those things. So, how can we be sure? Larson actually shows you the star of Bethlehem in this amazing video. Since the movement of celestial bodies is like clockwork and completely precise, astronomers can actually illustrate what the starry night would have look like at any time in history from any location on earth. Through the use of software, anyone with a knack for the stars can do the same.

I’ll get you started with the first part of 7 below. You can search for the rest on YouTube as I’m sure you will not be able to wait to buy the DVD to see the additional parts. However, I encourage you to support Larson’s work and purchase his DVD. What a great video to watch every Christmas with family, friends or even with your small group. Click here to order the DVD!

Winter Jam 2011

Hey, I know that sometimes finding something to do that appeals to the entire family that doesn’t bust the budget can be difficult. That is why I’m so excited about the Winter Jam 2011 tour, which is coming to Kansas City Sunday, Feb. 20.

The bands cross a good spectrum, so there is something for the parents (Newsong), something for the teens (Kutless, Newsboys), and even KJ-52 for the tweens! Plus David Crowder Band will be there to lead some worship.

This event is presented by the American Bible Society and only costs $10 per person!!! With nine different acts and Tony Nolan as a guest speaker, you get a great value, get to hear some great music, and get to spend some time with the family! What could be better then that?

Who all is gonna be there? Glad you asked:

  • Newsboys
  • David Crowder Band
  • Kutless
  • Red
  • Francesca Battistelli
  • Newsong
  • KJ-52
  • Sidewalk Prophets
  • Chris August
  • Special Speaker, Tony Nolan

The $10 would be worth it for just one band, or for me, just to hear Tony Nolan. He toured a few years back with Casting Crowns and can preach more in 10 minutes then I could through a 10 week series! Powerful stuff!

There are no tickets needed for the event, its just 10 bucks at the door, which opens at 5 p.m. for the 6 p.m. start at the Sprint Center downtown. I know we have Upper Room…but we may have to cancel it that night, cause I know I for one don’t intend to miss this awesome event!

If you need more info, go to www.PremierProductions.com to find out!

See ya there!

What’s in a name?

I’m starting a new series in REACT, which is the Young Adult group for Cross Points Church, on Jan. 2nd. The series is on the names of God. We’re going to spend some time looking at various names for the three parts of the Trinity and what they tell us about His attributes. However, to kick it off, I figured a bit of background on the importance of names in general was a good place to start.

In doing research, I came across a fantastic article, which is linked here:  http://www.bible-codes.org/Names-Bible-Prophecy-Code.htm that really was amazing. In Bible College I read a book called ‘The Scarlet Thread’ which talked about how the Bible is woven together from Genesis to Revelation with one theme, God’s Redemptive Plan. But this really puts things in a whole new light! There is a lot more info on the link (located above) that I haven’t included here, so when you’re done reading here, go back up to the link and see even more! God really IS in control and really DOES have a plan! As you start a new year, enjoy!

The meaning of a name was very important in bible days. The bible itself informs the reader what the meaning of many biblical persons are, men of renown such as Adam, Cain, Seth, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and all his 12 sons. Their names tell the story of why or how they were born.
Some have wondered if these names (with their meanings) were intended by God to be strung together in chronological succession to tell some larger story. Already, the first 10 names in the bible from Adam to Noah have been strung together. But do they continue to read like this all the way to Jesus, 72 persons in all?
We begin with “God” in the genealogy of Jesus just as the Gospel of Luke does. Luke calls Adam, “The son of God”, therefore “God” is the correct starting point in Jesus’ genealogy, (Luke 3:38).
Read down the right column where the meaning of each consecutive name
in Jesus’ genealogy is given, and note the unfolding prophecy.
