Unlocking Faith Pt. 2: What Faith is Not
March 18, 2012
Pastor Devin Kroner
Hebrews 11:6: tells us that without faith it is impossible to please God.
Faith is foundation for the Believer in Christ to live the kind of life God wants him to live, and it’s all over the New Testament.
Faith, simply, is movement. It is the concrete steps a person takes toward knowing, relating to, and living for Christ.
Faith begins where the will of God is known.
Ignorance and victory are impossible roommates.
1) Faith is not denial.
Hebrews 11:1 (Amplified):
Now faith is the assurance (the confirmation, [a]the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses].
Real faith doesn’t deny reality; real faith just doesn’t get affected by reality!
Along with faith, God has given us a brain! He expects us to use it!
If something isn’t revealed to my senses that means I don’t feel it.
2) Faith is not a magic wand
The Holy Spirit is NOT your fairy godmother!
Hebrews 10:23 (KJV)
23Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)
3) Faith is not limited to specific results.
God sees the beginning from the end. We, simply, don’t.
Hebrews 11:8-13 (ESV)
8 By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.
9 By faith he went to live in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise.
10 For he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God.
13 These all died in faith, not having received the things promised, but having seen them and greeted them from afar
Hebrews 11:39-40 (ESV)
39 And all these, though commended through their faith, did not receive what was promised,
40 since God had provided something better…
Abraham, and all those listed in the ‘hall of faith’ knew:
-God Could
-God Would
Even if He didn’t to it Then!
In the end…God WINS!
Sometimes, the victory is here.
Sometimes, the promise waits on the other side of eternity.
